King Sejong the Great (1397. 5.15.~1418. 9.18.)

The 4th king of the Joseon Dynasty. His temple name is Sejong (世宗), his posthumous title is King Sejong the Great, Jangheon Yeongmun Yewoo Inseong Myeonghyo (莊憲英文睿武仁聖明孝大王), his personal name is Do (祹), his courtesy name is Wonjeong (元正), and his childhood name was Makdong (莫同, youngest).

Sejong was born in 1397, five years after the founding of the Joseon Dynasty in 1392, making him the first king born in the Joseon era.

During his 31-year reign, Sejong achieved numerous accomplishments, earning him the title of the greatest and most virtuous ruler of the Joseon Dynasty and one of the most respected monarchs in Korean history alongside Gwanggaeto the Great, both of whom are often referred to as 'Dae Wang' (Great King). The Korean alphabet, Hangul, created by Sejong, is now the official script of both South Korea and North Korea. Furthermore, the northern border established during the reign of Sejong remains the border of the Korean Peninsula to this day. Sejong's reign had a profound influence on the culture and daily lives of modern Koreans. Because of these achievements, Sejong is one of the most revered figures in Korea, alongside Admiral Yi Sun-sin.
