John F. Kennedy
The 35th President of the United States. He marked the beginning of TV image politics, was the youngest U.S. president elected through a formal election, the first Catholic U.S. president, one of eight U.S. presidents who graduated from Harvard University, and a non-WASP president. He was the first U.S. president born in the 20th century. He was assassinated in Texas after only two years and ten months in office.
Along with Franklin D. Roosevelt, he is a representative figure of the U.S. Democratic Party and a near-spiritual leader for the American progressive community and Democratic supporters. He resolved the Cuban Missile Crisis, which could have been World War III, and launched the Apollo program, giving the U.S. absolute dominance in the space race. He inspired American citizens with his "New Frontier" spirit, urging them to ask not what their country can do for them but what they can do for their country. Along with Reagan, he is a post-WWII president who enjoys widespread popularity across party lines.
Skeptics and cynics, whose vision is limited to seeing only obvious realities, can never solve many of the world's problems. What we need are people who can dream of things that have never existed.
Imagine that problems are solved just by doing things the same way we always have. Then no problems would ever arise. But this is impossible. In the complex and diverse reality, to solve problems, we must come up with ideas so bizarre that they seem absurd. Even if those ideas are useless, find at least one solution within them.
I don't care what you do. But whatever you do, be the best at it. Even if you're a sewer worker, be the best sewer worker in the world.
Action comes with risks and costs. But they are far less than the long-term risks and costs of inaction.
