Jeon Yu-seong (1949. 1.28. ~ )

A South Korean comedian, performance planner and writer.

He majored in theater at the Seoul Arts College, and made his debut as a theater actor in 1967. He made his debut as a comedy writer for TBC Dongyang Broadcasting in 1968, and the following year, in 1969, he made his official debut as a broadcast writer for MBC Munhwa Broadcasting. He also served as a director of Jinro Group. He runs a retro-style cafe called 'School Bell Rings' in Insadong, and is known as an idea man for creating late-night bowling alleys and late-night theaters. He is particularly known for popularizing the term 'comedian' and for initiating the comedy concert boom by planning the first comedy concert.

His books include 'Computer, I'll Do It as Well as Jeon Yu-seong in a Week', 'PC Communication, I'll Do It as Well as Jeon Yu-seong in a Week', 'Internet, I'll Do It as Well as Jeon Yu-seong in a Week', 'A Tour of Other People's Cultural Heritage', 'Life is Fun if You're Just a Little Bit Cowardly', 'Everything They Tell You Not to Do Is Fun', 'Jeon Yu-seong's Gula-Samgukji', etc.

He was once in a de facto marriage with singer Jin Mi-ryung, but they did not register their marriage. They later separated (in effect, divorced) and he made his film directorial debut in 1991 with 'Chick Chick's Tomorrow is Champion', but it was a box office failure. He then shifted his focus to children's films for video.

○ If you don't want to compete, you have to look at the world a little bit askew. I don't compete. If you go your own way, you don't have to compete with others. Of course, you can't avoid competition with yourself.

○ We can't tell the difference between playing and resting. Playing is sightseeing and resting is travel, I think. We don't rest well at tourist spots. In the past, we were allowed to rest in order to make us work. But then we realized that if we didn't rest and work, our efficiency would decrease. In the past, we looked at playing as something impure. The words 'playing guy', 'playing girl', etc., were all viewed negatively when they were used to describe playing with someone. But now it's a world where you can play well and make money. Hanbiya is known for going on trips. There's the story of the ant and the grasshopper. How can everyone live like an ant? During the IMF currency crisis, the ant army was laid off a lot. It was the ant's time of suffering.

○ Words are useless. Time is the best medicine. There's no hangover cure. You vomit, eat hangover soup, go to the sauna, and get exhausted, and then the hangover goes away.
